Marsh reeds and open water in southeastern Massachusetts
Local pest pressure

Swamp country. Serious mosquito pressure.

The Hockomock Swamp and the Taunton River basin drive the pressure that puts Bristol County towns near the top of the state's mosquito-risk maps most seasons — and the same wet woodland is prime blacklegged tick habitat.

  • The state's EEE watch zoneSoutheastern Massachusetts swamps drive the periodic Eastern equine encephalitis risk years that push towns into evening activity guidance. A property treatment reduces the mosquitoes resting in your own foliage between the district's rounds.
  • Standing water that never dries outCedar swamp, vernal pools and cranberry bog edges keep producing all season. We larvicide the water on your property that can't be drained and treat the foliage the adults shelter in.
  • Two tick species, not oneBlacklegged and lone star ticks are both established here. The wooded edge, the stone wall and the leaf litter get treated — an open, mown lawn usually doesn't need it.

FAQ

Bristol County questions, answered

My town is covered by the Bristol County Mosquito Control Project. Do I still need this?

The district treats public land, roadsides and catch basins on a wide schedule. It doesn't treat the shaded foliage in your own yard where mosquitoes rest during the day, which is exactly what a property barrier treatment is for. The two work well together.

How does EEE risk affect what you recommend?

Risk levels are set town by town each season by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health — follow your town's guidance on evening activity. What we can do is reduce the mosquito population resting on your property; a treatment doesn't change your town's risk rating.

Do you cover the Rhode Island line towns?

Yes — Seekonk, Rehoboth, Swansea and the North Attleboro / Cumberland edge are all on our regular Bristol County route.
